4 Person tents, a cooler, a five hour drive and a car packed down with little ones . . . yes. Camping can be tricky when you have smaller children along for the ride. Of course there is the inevitable backseat fight that you will have to break up. And obviously it will take threatening to leave someone by the side of the road to solve the problem. When all of this is said and done however you still have the problem of trying to pitch the 4 person tents all on your own and occupying their time until vacation ends.
If you are about to set out on your own family camping adventure then the thought of keeping the kids entertained has probably been weighing heavily on your mind. I remember the first time my spouse and I took our kids camping. I won’t bore you with far too many details but it went something like this – the kids fought all the way there, complained the whole time we were there and then fought the entire way back.
Now doesn’t that sound like lots of fun? If you want to avoid the camping disasters that plague so many parents read on. We will help you keep those little ones entertained and your sanity in check.
Silly Campfire Twists
Go ahead and admit it. Those old campfire songs bore you to tears. I don’t know about you . . . in my family “Kumbaya” doesn’t calm anyone’s spirits. Maybe that’s because they are too busy screaming “She hit me!” “No! He hit me first!”
Sometimes the key to keeping everyone from skinning each other alive is putting some fun spins on old favorites that usually bore them to tears. Now when we go camping we ad-lib and everyone gets a turn to sing a line in a song. The only catch is the next line sung must rhyme with the previous. For instance one year our campfire hit sounded like this . . .“My bonnie lies over the ocean. My bonnie lies over the sea. I think I drank too much Co-Cola and I think I might possibly pee.”
Bedtime Tips
Being away from your own comfy bedon an unfamiliar camping ground and crammed into camping 4 person tents makes sleeping away from home even more difficult. Sometimes it does help if the budget can stretch as far to get 5 person tents this will give you a little bit more space for your little ones to play. Another tip is if your little ones have a favorite snuggly bring it along to share your four berth tent that would help them settle a lot quicker. Also make sure that every child has their own mini-flashlight.
You might also consider getting a first aid kit for the just in case camping trip.
While you may not want them shining them all night it will be a security measure that makes them feel more at ease just in case. From setting up Coleman tents in the 4 person tent pack to dealing with temper tantrums in the car. When it comes to having a good time with your family sometimes a eurohike tent 4 man might also be considered as it is lighter and quicker to put up and down especially as children get impatient and tired waiting to set the tent for the night. If you take the time to think before you take the drive your camping trip will no doubt go a whole lot smoother and happier for both you and your kids.
Happy camping!
